O’Sullivan’s Troops Enjoy OSS Double

Three-year-old pacing colts and geldings made the trek to Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, as the oval hosted six divisions of the OSS for Grassrooters

.

Trainer Tony O’Sullivan enjoyed a profitable night at the office thanks to a stakes double with Dalhousie Dave and Grin Big.

Dalhousie Dave kicked off his career with three consecutive wins at Mohawk Racetrack, and he’s now perfect in his first four assignments thanks to a 1:53.4 triumph in his $24,000 tilt. Jody Jamieson, who enjoyed a five-win night, overcame early interference with the son of Astreos en route to posting the 1-1/4 length win over This Is Wyatt. Third prize went to Stormy Art.

The homebred, who is owned by John Fielding and Jim Fielding of Toronto, ON, has banked $34,000 to date.

Grin Big, who joined O’Sullivan’s barn earlier this Spring, went wire-to-wire in an eye-catching clocking of 1:52 for driver Jody Jamieson, who drew clear to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Modern Era. Southview Anand was third.

The son of Grinfromeartoear, who is owned by Joseph Martinelli of Staten Island, NY, now owns a 6-5-2 record in his first 13 starts of the campaign. He has stashed away in excess of $60,000 this year and more than $65,000 to date.

Other divisional winners on Sunday night were:

Rock Me Amastreos - 1:52.3 (Astreos)

Mister Russ - 1:53 (Rustler Hanover)

Medoland Big Cam - 1:54.1 (Million Dollar Cam)

Lyons Frank - 1:54.1 (Camluck)

The next stop on the OSS Grassroots trail for the three-year-old pacing colts and geldings is Hanover Raceway on July 17.

Priceless Edition; Finnegan Prevail In Preferreds

Priceless Edition took home bragging rights in the $14,000 Preferred Pace for driver Gord Brown, who did some deep stretch showboating en route to the 1:51.1 tally with the Mark Steacy-trained six-year-old son of Real Desire.

The gelding, who was a winner by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.2 in last week’s Preferred Pace, drew off to win by 8-1/2 lengths in Sunday’s assignment. The clocking equaled his lifetime mark. He defeated Nocturnal and Match Bayama.

Peter Heffering’s homebred is now a four-time winner this season and a 31-time winner in his career. Along the way he has managed to stash away more than $435,000 in earnings.

Finnegan pushed his win streak to three-in-a-row thanks to a 1:56.1 triumph in the $14,000 Preferred Trot for trainer/driver Ted McDonald. The five-year-old son of Angus Hall led the field through fractions of :27.3, :57.2 and 1:26.3 before stepping home in :29.3 to secure the two-length win over Perfect Vacation. Third went to Dream Machine N.

Owned by Dobe Stables of Rideau Ferry, ON, Finnegan now boasts a 5-3-3 record in his first 15 starts of the 2010 campaign. He’s banked just over $38,000 this season and more than $126,000 to date.
