Rising Starlet Stake To Sky Sunny

Sky Sunny went wire-to-wire to capture the $15,000 Rising Starlet Stake final during the final card of Fraser Downs’ 2009-2010 meet on Saturday night

Fresh off a career-best 1:55.2 victory in her elimination of the Rising Starlet Stake for three-year-old pacing fillies that are non-winners of $20,000 lifetime, Sky Sunny beat her rivals to the lead from Post 7 with Red Star Fiona dropping in the pocket from the next position over. Trainer David Hudon was in the bike and directed the 9-5 second choice through stations of :27.2 , :58.2 and 1:27.1 en route to a 2-1/2 length triumph in 1:56.4. Favourite Red Star Stella (Tim Brown) and elimination winner Red Star Fiona (David McKellar) finished second and third.

The victory was Sky Sunny’s third in 13 starts this year for owners Kelly Hudon and Nigel Holmes of Surrey, BC. The Cambest-Armbro Sizzle filly has now earned $18,278 this year and $23,378 lifetime.

In the $10,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace, Judges Acenthehole converted from a perfect pocket trip to win for the first time this year for trainer-driver Jim Marino.

Judges Acenthehole left alertly from Post 5 but gave way to the parked out Jans Rich Girl (Scott Knight) at the :28.1 first quarter, who carved out the remaining stations of :57.3 and 1:25.4. The six-year-old daughter of Aces N Sevens-Stahaken found room at the rail to shoot through for the 1:55.1 victory. Favourite Furious Five (Tyler Remillard) finished one length behind in second with last week's winner Bridgette Hanover (David Hudon) finishing third.

Kalla Judge of Cobble Hill, BC owns the 18-time winner, who has banked $23,216 this year and $193,122 lifetime.

In other action, Hudon drove the Justin Currie-trained Mystic Maiden to her seventh consecutive win in the first race conditioner. The three-year-old Camystic-Artfromtheheart filly was a gate-to-wire winner in 1:55.2 for owners Barry MacFarlane and the Crimson Racing Stable of Langley, BC.
