NYSS Fillies Notch Monticello Wins
Wednesday, June 9 started out cold and windy at Monticello Raceway, and rain began falling by the third race. By the time the sixth race rolled around, the track was muddy, which hampered some of the sophomore trotting fillies that were racing in the seven divisions of the $188,000 New York Sire Stakes.
Divisional winners included Secret Credit, Impressive Kemp, Dontwanttobeblue, Tuesdays With Mom, Sweetspellosuccess, Munis Blue Chip and To Lindys Credit.
In the second race, prior to the pouring rain, Secret Credit had little trouble turning the tables on odds-on favourite Southwind Samurai when Brian Mattison guided her to a wire-to-wire lifetime best of 1:59:2.
Mattison was asked if he was surprised with the ease his 15-1 shot defeated the heavily-favoured Southwind Samurai.
“No, not really," he said. "She was a nice filly last year, and this year, after throat surgery, she’s even better. She (Secret Garden) won over $77,000 last season and she’ll be heard from in the sire stakes this year for sure.”
Secret Credit, trained by Paul Kelley, is owned by Bill Weaver and the Kelley racing Stable
