Big Bay Point Burns Rubber
Judging by the way Big Bay Point has raced in his first four starts since being purchased by Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC, it’s safe to say it was money well spent
.
The son of Camluck-Great Memories established the nation’s fastest mile of 2010 for a three-year-old gelding on a seven-eighths of a mile track when he torched Mohawk Racetrack’s oval in 1:50.1 for the tandem of trainer Dave Menary and driver Doug McNair
McNair hustled Big Bay Point off the gate from post five before releasing Grin Big to the front. That pacer sliced out a :26.3 opener before relinquishing the lead to a quarter-pole-moving Big Bay Point.
McNair wasted little time in re-establishing command with the pacer, who proceeded to throw down middle splits of :55.3 and 1:23.1 before firing home in a :27-second clip to win in a career-best 1:50.1. It also erased the former seasonal record of 1:51 established by Here We Go Again on May 17 at Woodbine.
Big Bay Point improved to 2-1-1 in his first four starts since the private purchase, while his overall 2010 record improved to 2-1-3 in 11 starts.
