Teague On Lynch Draw: "It Is What It Is"
“It’s not the ideal spot and not where we want to start from,” said George Teague, Jr., trainer of O'Brien Award winner Fancy Filly, one of the James M. Lynch Memorial Pace favourites. “But it is what it is.”
The Lynch will be the feature of the Saturday, June 5 program of racing at Pocono Downs
Teague’s prized three-year-old pacing filly is a perfect two for two in 2010 after winning 10 of 12 races last year, including a Breeders Crown. She earned $817,584 in 2010 and has never finished off the board in her career. Fancy Filly also won the $500,000 Three Diamonds with a World Record time of 1:51.1 for a five-eighths mile oval.
In her Lynch elimination race last Saturday, Fancy Filly won from Post 1 with a time of 1:51.1 with regular driver Brian Sears at her lines. Sears will be in the bike once again in the Lynch finale.
Teague said his prized filly came out of her elim in good shape after having not raced for three weeks. He expects Fancy Filly to be better this week.
“I really believe she’ll be a little sharper Saturday night,” Teague explained. “So far she’s been a real pleasure and does what she has to on the racetrack.”
If there’s a horse to worry about, Teague definitely believes that filly is Feeling You, supplemented to the Lynch for $15,000. “Feeling You has answered every call and us having the nine post changes the complexion of the race somewhat. It’s not to be an easy task for Fancy Filly. All three [elimination] winners last week were impressive. We definitely will have to earn it.”
Feeling You, trained by George Berkner, Jr. and driven by Jim Morrill, Jr., will bring a six-race win streak into the Lynch final -- five of the victories have come at Pocono Downs. Feeling You will be leaving from Post 4 after having also won her elim in 1:51.1.
Ruffles Kiss, trained and driven by Joe Pavia, Jr., was the other Lynch elim winner with a clocking of 1:51.4. She will be starting from Post 3. Ruffles Kiss' last two starts have been winning efforts.
Other horses in the field with posts and drivers include No. 2 No Bad Luck (Corey Callahan), No. 5 Sammys Magic Girl (Matt Kakaley), No. 6 Native Doll (Brett Miller), No. 7 All Heart Gal (George Napolitano, Jr.) and No. 8 A And GS Princess (Mike Simons).
There is a special 5:00 p.m. first-race post time for Pocono's Saturday program, and the Lynch has been carded as Race 11.
