Text Me Wires Gold Foes
Very little respect was given to last year’s OSS Super Final champ Text Me, who was sent off as a 6-1 outsider in Monday’s $130,000 Gold Series final at Mohawk
Racetrack. Apparently, the pari-mutuel snubbed motivated the colt to go the trip of his life.
Text Me marched to immediate command from post nine for driver Randy Waples, who threw down fractions of :28.1, :57.1 and 1:25.3 with the Bob McIntosh trainee who used a :29.3 final frame to post a career-best clocking of 1:55.1. Whit Ken Win enjoyed a pocket trip throughout and finished three-quarters of a length behind the winner. Third prize went to a rallying Hidden Message.
“Right at the wire I had a good feeling that things were going to go my way,” said driver Randy Waples. “I’m really glad because last week I just really put myself in a bad spot, and the horse never got a chance to race. I just wanted to give him every chance in the world tonight to show what he’s got, and he really raced well. I’m just glad that I got the drive and I’m glad I got to make up for the ‘dufus’ drive last week.”
Text Me went 3-for-13 in his rookie season and stashed away more than $377,000 in earnings. Monday’s victory was his second of the 2010 season, and the $65,000 payday helped lift his overall bankroll to $455,326. The homebred is owned by Robert McIntosh Stables Inc, C S X Stables and Dave Boyle.
