Msnaughtybynature Dominant At Hoosier
Msnaughtybynature, last year’s top two-year-old trotting filly in the state of Indiana, and Hoosier Park’s leading driver Peter Wrenn make a perfect, competitive pair. The duo romped to victory in the second round of Indiana Sires Stakes action Saturday, May 29 during Hoosier Cup Night
. The $40,000 event was one of 12 Sires Stakes on the program, bringing purses over the $1 million mark.
Starting from Post 5, Msnaughtybynature was in the top spot in two shakes, leading the way the entire mile through fractions of :28.2, :58.2, and 1:28. In the stretch, Call Me Ching and Dan Shetler had been at her back the entire time, but they started to drift away as Msnaughtybynature kicked into gear, sprinting home to the wire with a seven-length win in a time of 1:56. Sally and Mark O’Mara finished second while Hoosier Jodi and Andy Shetler closed well for third.
Msnaughtybynature is now two-for-two in 2010. The daughter of Scramble Ranger is owned by Peter’s wife, Melanie, along with members of The Kales Company of Michigan. Wrenn also trains the impressive-looking three-year-old, who had not raced in more than one month.
“I thought she [Msnaughtybynature] was better than she has ever been, even though she has been dominant in the past,” said Wrenn. “Tonight, she was on all cylinders. Maybe that break from racing after her first start did her some good.”
Now 11-for-14, Msnaughtybynature won nine races last year and more than $225,000 in earnings. She now has more than $265,000 on her card and her latest effort established a new lifetime mark.
“Naturally, I was very happy with her performance tonight,” said Wrenn. “It’s a long year, so we’ll just hope for health and soundness and everything else should play out.”
