Another Five For Henry At Hanover
There was a near track record, a few lifetime bests, and another five wins for Trevor Henry as Hanover Raceway played host to Hockeyville night at the Races
on Saturday.
Trevor Henry opened the season with five wins on May 1, and did it again Saturday winning races 2, 7, 8, 10 and 11. His winners were Ms Ballard (2:00.4) for trainer Chad Hall, Bertorico (1:59.3) for Nicholas Boyd, Jodies Romance (1:58.2) for Dan Creighton, and Ram Of The Night (1:56) and Northern Ace (1:57.4) for Paul Taylor.
The race of the night was Race 6 for non-winners of $3,000 in their last three. Live For Today, owned by Carmen Hastie of Elmwood and Catherine and Dustin McClure of Clinton got a pocket trip behind Just A Little Luck from Post 2, with times of :26.4, :57.1 and 1:26, before leaving the pocket and rocketing to victory in 1:54.3.
That’s just 2/5ths of a second behind the all age track record of 1:54.1 set by Magical GG in 2007. Needless to say, the 1:54.3 mile was a lifetime best for Live For Today, who is trained by George McClure. Bruce Richardson of Arthur drove the six-year-old son of Fit for Life to victory.
Four lucky kids went home happy on Hockeyville night, as they each won a bicycle courtesy of Hanover Raceway and Hanover Canadian Tire. Hanover Raceway holds Hockeyville each Canada Day long weekend in order to celebrate our favourite pastime from novice to the NHL.
Three and four-year-old Colt pacers hit the track next Saturday and may demolish the Hanover track record, when the Slots Cup comes to town. The colts are trying to earn points based on their finish to qualify for the $100,000 Slots Cup final this September at Hiawatha Horse Park in Sarnia. One lucky fan who swipes their winner’s circle card will win a limousine trip to the Slots Cup finals and the chance to win a share of $5,000 in prize money. Post time at Hanover Raceway is 7:15 p.m.
