Waples, Baillargeon Take Meet Titles
Randy Waples took over the lead in the Woodbine Racetrack driver standings in early February and never looked back to take the coveted title at the conclusion of
the Toronto oval’s 2010 winter-spring harness meet last night.
Waples, the 44-year-old resident of Milton, Ont. had 129 wins overall, 30 more than nearest rival Sylvain Filion (99). Mark Macdonald was third with 98 wins.
Waples was second at the winter-spring meet behind Jody Jamieson in 2009.
Benoit Baillargeon recorded his second straight winter-spring training title with 48 wins during the 89-day meet. Shawn Robinson finished second with 42 wins, four clear of Richard Moreau (38).
Twenty-three stakes finals were raced during the Woodbine meet, which began January 1, including The Diplomat Pacing Series (won by Mcaracas), Princess Pacing Series (Cowboys Dreamer), Spring Pacing Championship (Dali), Damsel Pacing Series (Cats Meow), Cam Fella Pacing Series (Sixdaysontheroad) and the Glorys Comet Trotting Series (Armbro Chronicle).
Next up is the 108-day meet at Mohawk Racetrack, which begins this Thursday evening, May 20, and concludes October 16.
