The upset in this week’s $14,000 Preferred Trot was manufactured by Star Ruffnready, who lit up the toteboard to the tune of 11-1 for driver Rheo Filion. The five-year-old son of Armbro Winner enjoyed a covered up trip en route to posting the half-length score in 1:56.1 over Darkon Lavec. J S Chisum came on strong to grab the show dough.
The homebred, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer James Lamacchia, is owned by Pepiniere Nicky Inc of Lery and Lewis Murphy of St-Etienne-De-Beauharnois, QC. The victory was the gelding’s first of the season in 15 starts and the $7,000 payday lifted his career bankroll over $211,000.
P H Bestman extended his win streak to three-in-a-row thanks to his rallying victory in the $14,000 Preferred Pace. That was music to the ears of the backers that hammered him down to be the 6/5 favourite.
Kyle Forgie mapped out the winning trip for the five-year-old son of Cambest, who kicked home in a :29-second clip to stop the clock in 1:53.4. Aint No Hearsay closed from far back to finish second and third prize was earned by Mild Mannered.
Jamie Copley, who sent out three winners on the Sunday evening program, trains the 22-time winner for Dr. James Shive of Shubenacadie, NS. The pacer, who has banked in excess of $186,000 in his career, is now 4-for-12 this season.
