Having hung his driver's helmet up for good in the spring of 1999, eastern Ontario horseman Charlie Sloan recently reflected on his career in the racebike in an

article this week by The Kingston Whig Standard.

And Sloan wasn't just a flash in the pan. In a driving career which stretched from 1971 to 1999, the 61-year-old made winning races common, as he hit the wire first on 1,019 occasions.

"It happened at Quinte Raceway and they came out afterwards and presented me with the plaque," Sloan said about his 1,000th career win, which came in 1997. "I was surprised, I had no idea I was closing in on a thousand."
