Red Mile Dates To Be Dropped
It was announced earlier this week that the Red Mile received approval earlier this week to cut some race dates from its upcoming schedule
.
A report on courier-journal.com explains that the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission approved the elimination of Mondays August 16 and 30 and September 20. The Kentucky Harness Horsemen's Association also reportedly approved the change.
In a letter to the KHRC, Red Mile President Joe Costa cited multiple economic factors in wishing to drop the dates. A reduction in purses and a declining horse population were reportedly cited in Costa's letter.
