Pocono Open To Grain Of Truth
Grain Of Truth continued his run of success at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs with a win in the featured Open Handicap trot on Tuesday night. The race carried the
evening’s top purse of $24,000.
With Mike Simons in the bike for trainer Ray Schnittker, Grain Of Truth left from post seven in the eight-horse field and quickly settled into the pocket behind Autumn Escapade. Those two held the top two spots until the stretch, when Simons urged the nine-year-old gelding into the passing lane en route to winning by a half-length in 1:55 on a track listed “Good”. Autumn Escapade faded to second while Salutation Hanover finished third.
Grain Of Truth, who shared Trotter of the Year honours at Pocono in 2009 for owners Charles and Giorgan Iannazzo of Tappan, NY, now has a 3-2-0 record in five tries in the Open Handicap Trots in the 2010 Pocono meet. The gelding, who went off at 4-1, owns 51 career victories with over $823,000 in lifetime earnings.
