Double Shot Of Preferreds At Rideau
Perfection Vacation won the weekly bragging rights in Rideau Carleton Raceway’s top trotting class for the second week in a row thanks to a dominant performance
on Sunday, while Secret Weapon enjoyed a successful road trip thanks to his score in the top class for pacers.
After coming up a neck the best in 1:57.3 in last week’s $14,000 Preferred Trot, Perfect Vacation outdid himself in tonight’s follow-up assignment against Rideau’s savviest square gaiters. He led at every call for driver John MacDonald en route to winning by more than five lengths in 1:56.2. Star Ruffnready and Darkon Lavec were the next ones under the line.
Richard Moreau conditions the seven-year-old son of Dream Vacation, who is now a four-time winner in just 11 starts this season. Sean Hibbert of Corbyville, ON pays the bills and cashes the cheques on the career winner of $239,274.
Secret Weapon, who hadn’t participated in a pari-mutuel tilt since December 7, 2009, was a well-prepped winner in his first start off the bench for trainer Wayne Preszcator. The eight-year-old son of Western Hanover used his off-the-pace skills to earn the 1:52.2 victory for driver Gilles Gendron. Race favourite Greystone Cash staged a late rally and wound up a neck back in second, while Armadilo settled for third after laying down all of the early fractions.
Sent off as a 6-1 outsider, Secret Weapon picked up his 30th lifetime victory while pushing his overall bankroll to $364,910 for owners Barbara and James Lehman of Waterloo and Robert Patterson of Caledon, ON.
