Cash Account Cashes In

Storyeum (Serge Masse) left from the center of the track and set the tempo with early fractions of :26.2 and :55.4. Meanwhile, Cash Account and driver Carl Sibiga were the early trailers after a Post 8 start in the field reduced to eight due to the scratch of Red Star Volcano.
After the second quarter breather, 6-5 favourite Primary Purpose (Rod Therres) made his move from third with Nazko Daytona (Jim Marino), Red Star Paylater (Ed Hensley) and Cash Account picking up the cover.
Storyeum continued to lead past three quarters in 1:23.1, but was not be able to hold off the backfield in the stretch. Cash Account had moved three-deep and the pocket-sitting Beach Boy Toy (Dave Hudon) found room along the rail in the stretch, setting up a four-horse sprint to the wire. Cash Account proved to be the quickest as he surged ahead on the outside to score in 1:53.1 by a length. Beach Boy Toy finished second with Nazko Daytona coming on for third over Primary Purpose.
