Abby Best Takes Truro Feature
After back-to-back defeats to begin her nine-year-old campaign, Abby Best was reunited with the winner’s circle in her third kick at the can
in Sunday afternoon’s feature race at Truro Raceway.
The award-winning daughter of Cambest, who is the fastest female performer in the history of Truro Raceway thanks to a 1:55 score over the half-miler last season, cruised to 1:58.1 victory for the combination of driver Clare MacDonald and owner/trainer Angus MacLean of Port Hood, Nova Scotia.
MacDonald tucked Abby Best into the two-hole behind Ocean Of Motion, who rolled the field to the opening quarter in :29 seconds. The lead proved to be a short-lived one for Ocean Of Motion, however, as Abby Best rushed to the top shortly past the mid-way point in :59.3.
Abby Best motored by the three-quarter pole in 1:28.2 and finished off her foes with a :29.4 final frame en route to the 1:58.1 decision. It was just over a length back to runner-up Roi De Couer BG and just over three lengths more to third-place finisher My Fine Lady.
It was the 41st lifetime tally for the mare, who has banked more than $83,000 to date. She put together a very impressive 15-4-2 record from just 24 starts last season and earned her lifetime record of 1:54.3 at the Charlottetown Driving Park in the $14,434 final of the Erwin Andrew Memorial Series.
