Sudbury Readies For Saturday Night
In preparation for the Saturday, April 24th opening night at Sudbury Downs another round of qualifying races were held at the Nickel City oval on Tuesday morning
.
Added to the 23 horses that qualified last weekend, 17 more got the nod from Ontario Racing Commission officials. And while those made up for a significant number of the opening night entries, Racing Director Brent Powell had another 67 horses declared for the inaugural 2010 draw.
In all, Powell has put together a 12-race card, which includes three trotting events. The first of those, a conditioned event that allows for optional claimers with a $15,000 price tag, is carded as the second race on the night. A $6,500 claiming trot fills the spot in race seven and horses for the $5,000 claiming trot step onto the track for the 11th race.
Sudbury’s next draw is Friday for Wednesday night racing and then comes back with a Tuesday morning draw for the weekend cards. Entries close both days at 10:00 a.m.
Horsemen are reminded that the Ontario Racing Commission Judges have called a drivers meeting on Saturday prior to the races. It will take place in the backstretch recreation room at 6:30 p.m.
