Alberta Notes On UHA, Handle Rise

Max Gibb, the CEO of the United Horsemen of Alberta, has now given a new timeline for when he hopes his group will be debt free and closer to re-starting construction

on the proposed racetrack north of the Calgary airport.

"We believe we will be clear (of debt) by the end of May," said Gibb to thehorses.com on Monday afternoon. "We do have significant interest from investors, operators and hotel builders."

According to Gibb, construction could start by the end of June. Stay tuned, though, because there are still critical hurdles to be cleared before then.

A positive sign for harness racing in Edmonton: the handle for the just completed Northlands Park winter/spring harness meet increased by four per cent from the fall meet.
