Daddy's 'Little Girl' Joins Ownership Ranks

Her colleagues at the CHUM Radio Group in Vancouver know her as Tracey Mills, Promotions Director of QM-FM, Team Radio and The Beat 94.5 FM

.

She is really Tracey Gemmill, daughter of the legendary owner, trainer and long-time driver at Fraser Downs Racetrack and Casino, Ray Gemmill.

For years Tracey had been trying to talk her Dad into allowing her to enter into a partnership as part-owner of a pacer at Fraser Downs. “He wouldn’t have any part of it,” Tracey says. “Then all of a sudden, shortly after his 80th birthday, he had a change of heart. He told me that he had his eye on a little colt and I could buy in if I still wanted to. I couldn’t write the cheque quickly enough.”

The daughter’s timing was perfect. Tracey had a major hand in gathering the family together to celebrate Ray’s 80th birthday at Fraser Downs on March 20. “I just caught him in the right mood,” Tracey says in what could best be described as a “Daddy’s little girl” tone. “Today I am the proud new part-owner of Red Star Stella.”

The latest addition to the Gemmill stables race for his new owners Saturday night in the first race of the 7:30 p.m. card at Fraser Downs.

Hensley Keeps Turning It On

As the weeks go by, Ed Hensley simply continues to add to his phenomenal numbers as leading driver and leading trainer at Fraser Downs. Heading into the weekend Hensley has 151 driving wins in 563 starts for total earnings of $812,623. In the training category, Hensley has scored 110 wins in 339 starts for total earnings of $743,002.

“I never dreamed I would have a year like this,” Hensley says. “Everything has just fallen into place. I’m not as aggressive as I used to be but it’s working.”
