Gassien A "Little Taken Back"

Reg Gassien has stated that he was initially a "little taken back" when he received word that he would be receiving a Living Legend Award from the Ontario Harness Horse Association

.

An article by The Peterborough Examiner explains that the 60-year-old resident of Lindsey found out that he would be receiving the award via a letter in the mail. In his career, Gassien has steered his mounts to more than 4,200 wins and $26 million in purse earnings.

"To receive any award is nice, but it means just a little bit more when it's from your peers," he was quoted as saying. "I guess when you receive a Living Legend Award it means you are getting old (laughs). It's still very nice."

Gassien will be receiving the award at OHHA's annual awards banquet, which will be taking place in Guelph tomorrow.

I remember one Saturday afternoon at Greenwood when the "Gass Man" won either 6 or 7 consecutive races. It was an amazing streak. He and Brownie owned the place back then.

The Gas man has been a great driver for a long time.
Well deserved Reg.
