The last time fans saw Kyle Major in action was last October when he finished third in the $720,860 Breeders Crown final for two-year-old pacing colts

and geldings. The strapping son of Art Major-So Clear resurfaced at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday evening, and the pacer didn’t miss a beat.

Kyle Major, who remains eligible to the Pepsi North America Cup among other high profile races, passed his first test of the 2010 with winning colours for the duo of driver Jody Jamieson and trainer Shawn Robinson.

With just a 1:56.3 qualifying victory from March 25 at Mohawk Racetrack under his belt, the sophomore shot to immediate command from his post two starting spot and never looked back en route to a career-best clocking of 1:52.2. He sliced out splits of :27, :57 and 1:25.2 before sprinting home in a :27-second clip to seal the deal.

“The Robinson camp always bring them ready to race,” said driver Jody Jamieson. “This horse trained in 2:05 since that qualifier so I knew he was ready to race. I’m not sure if being on the front was the exact trip I wanted, but as it turned out we stayed out of trouble up there. Dave [Elliott] who looks after him was telling me all along how great he was training, and every time a trainer got off of him they told me how great he was. Bob Hamather [owner/breeder] puts a lot of money in the business every year and hopefully he’s got one good enough for the NA Cup.”

Hamather’s homebred finished his rookie season with a 2-1-1 record after just seven trips behind the starting gate. He banked $122,233 along the way thanks in large part to the $86,503 he picked up for finishing third in the final of the Breeders Crown.
