Hensley's Gals Dominate In Open
After a couple of near misses in each of her last two starts, Modern Legacy kicked her game up a notch and took home top prize in Sunday’s $13,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace at Fraser Downs
.
Trainer Ed Hensley, who finished the day with three trips to victory lane, sent out not only the winner in the featured race, but the second place finisher, as well.
Jans Rich Girl and Jeff Stone threw down early fractions of :28 and :57 before Modern Legacy and Hensley popped off the rail and pressed the pacesetter to the three-quarter pole in a stepped-up tempo of 1:25.2. Modern Legacy’s first-over attack got to Jans Rich Girl by the time the field arrived at the top of the stretch, and she had no problem holding off the backfield through the lane.
In fact, her :28.4 final frame allowed her to win by just over a length in 1:54.1. Her stablemate/entrymate, Lickcreek Jazzy, found late room and rallied to grab the runner-up award while Jans Rich Girl faded to finish third.
J J J Stables of Aldergrove, BC and Hensley of Blaine, WA share ownership on the five-year-old Jate Lobell miss, who has banked in excess of $170,000 in her career.
Hensley’s other winners were Red Star Paylater (1:53.2) and Duel N Die (1:57).
Trainer Keith Clark and driver Tim Brown also proved to be a formidable combination on the matinee program. Together, they teamed up for a three-win performance on the 12-race card.
They took the opener with Bear Ing Promises (1:56.1) and added triumphs with Red Star Kash (1:55) in Race 5 and Double L Rumbler (1:57) in Race 9.
