Alcohol Changes For Preakness Infield
How many gallons of beer and booze will your infield hold? Pimlico in Maryland is likely to find out
on Preakness Day, when it takes big steps -- or perhaps strokes -- to recapture the college crowd it lost last year with its ban on booze being brought in from outside.
A baltimoresun.com feature says attendance fell by 35,000, to 77,000, and quoted a Pimlico spokesman as saying, “We were boycotted by the college kids, but we still believe that was the right decision. Obviously, we took something from them last year.”
This year, they are reducing the infield price from $50 to $40, and adding a $20 offer for 16-ounce mugs of beer with unlimited refills, individual beers will sell for $3 instead of the previous $3.50.
