Implementation Of UIGEA Nears
According to a report, a recent meeting between United States Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Arizona Senator Jon Kyl, the Senate Minority Whip, resulted in an agreement in regard to implementation of the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act.
A report by Harness Tracks of America cites an article by The Washington Post as saying that a recent meeting between Geithner and Kyl resulted in Geithner agreeing to no further delays in enforcement of UIGEA in return for Kyl releasing holds on six Democratic federal appointees.
The internet ban was due for enforcement in December of 2009, but Treasury agreed at that time to a six-month hold until June 1, 2010.
U.S. House Representative Barney Frank, sponsor of legislation to defuse the UIGEA, has not yet had it marked up in his own House Finance Committee, and now has only two months to do so if Geithner keeps his promise to Kyl.
