White Puts On Clinic At Truro
Judging by the kind of Sunday afternoon he had at Truro Raceway on Sunday, don’t be surprised if you see Nicholas White’s face on a box of Wheaties
in the very near future. The conditioner watched four starters from his outfit find their way to the winner’s circle during the 12-race matinee at the Nova Scotia half-miler.
White got the ball rolling with Race Me Volcano who erupted for a Race 2 triumph in 2:03.1. The eight-year-old son of Lahar rallied for a narrow decision in 2:03.1 for driver Walter Cheverie. Kirk Parris mapped out the winning trip for White’s next winner – Anna Tu – in Race 3. The five-year-old Nukes Victory miss took over command past the three-quarter pole and drew off to win by more than six lengths in 2:03.4.
Cheverie and White were back to victory lane in Race 6 thanks to a gate-to-wire win with the eight-year-old V P Finance ridgling, All Natural Power. The pacer led through panels of :29.3, :59.3 and 1:31 before sealing the deal with a :30.4 final quarter. The duo came back to take the checkered flag in Race 9 with Canaco Quelle, who worked hard to prevail by three-quarters of a length in 2:03.2.
Cheverie added another triumph later on the card to bring his daily win total to four, as well. He clicked with a pacer from his own barn – Broadway Bill – in Race 12. The five-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding stopped the clock in 2:00.2.
The Grand Slam for White was by far his biggest program of the season. The Kennetcook, Nova Scotia horseman enjoyed a career year in 2008 when he sent out 60 winners and banked more than $47,000 in purses. He has sent out 10 winners so far this year.
