Timberline Court Again; Hat Trick For Hudon
Trainer/driver Gerry Hudon enjoyed a big day at the office on Saturday afternoon when his troops combined for a three-win performance during the 10-race program at Edmonton’s Northlands Park
.
Hudon, who was one of three candidates in the O’Brien Award of Horsemanship category in 2009, took the opener with Brandy Is Dandy in 1:57.1. The three-year-old Brandons Cowboy miss opened up a big lead at the head of the lane and held on to win by a measured margin for Hudon, who shares ownership on the filly with Monica Hudon and Bill Boden.
That filly’s stablemate, Dreamway Confed, was the next Hudon pupil to visit victory lane. He rallied from out of the clouds to win Race 7 in 1:56.3. The three-year-old son of No Pan Intended prevailed by a nose for Hudon and partners Jocelyn Hudon and Lynn Kowalevsky.
Hudon's training and driving hat trick was wrapped up in style thanks to another impressive win in the $12,000 Open Pace with Timberline Court, who front-stepped to a 1:53.1 tally. Sent off as the even-money favourite, the five-year-old son of With Held fended off a late rush from Armbro Dublin, who was last at the three-quarter pole and just three-quarters of a length behind the winner at the finish line. Trust The Artist rounded out the top three.
Hudon shares the cheques and bills on the gelding with partner Lynn Kowalevsky of Airdrie, Alberta. It was the second consecutive victory for the career winner of $233,359, and it was the 16th of his career.
