‘Antonia’ Takes Fifth Straight
After breaking her maiden on Oct. 30, Wildcat Antonia has not stopped winning as she returned to the winner’s circle at Flamboro Downs for the fifth-straight time when taking an $8,600 conditioned pace on Saturday (Dec. 18).
The three-year-old filly by Control The Moment left the wings as the 9-5 second choice and landed in the middle of the pack from post 4. Lili GL, the odds-on favourite, fired for the front from the pylon post and set a clip of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:28.2 on the point. Driver Aaron Byron began his move with Wildcat Antonia approaching the half and loomed to press the leader to the final turn and all through the stretch. The pair scrummed through most of the straightaway until Lili GL gave way in the final strides and Wildcat Antonia passed the beam in front by three-quarter lengths in a 1:58.3 mile.
A homebred for Wildcat Stables Inc. that is co-owned by Antonio Tangreda, Wildcat Antonia has five wins on her card from 19 starts, good for $22,810 in earnings. She paid $5.70 to win.
