Underdog Upsets In Lady Dogwood
Many expected the Jim Marino-trained Moosette to haul home the hardware in Thursday’s $20,000 Lady Dogwood Final at Fraser Downs, but her stablemate one-upped her and walked away with all the glory.
It was Mrs Suhwiggins who went down the road at odds of 8-1 and captured the rich affair for the duo of driver David Kelly and trainer Jim Marino.
The five-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon-Michelles Fury sailed along through fractions of :27.1, :56 and 1:23.3 before slipping home in :29.1 to win by a head over Hottieonthehorizon in 1:52.4. Whatineedisaman tagged along to finish third, with Glimpseofgoodness fourth and odds-on favourite, Moosette, settling for fifth prize in the five-mare affair.
J J J Stables of Prince George, AB own the 23-time winner who now boasts a 6-3-5 record from 22 trips to the track this season. The $10,000 payday helped the distaffer drive her lifetime earnings over $313,000 to date.
