Auditor General Releases Racing Report
On Wednesday (December 1) the Office of The Auditor General of Ontario released a number of reports, with one report of particular interest to the harness racing industry.
The Auditor General watches over the administration of the province's finances to help the Legislature hold the government accountable. The Auditor does this by carrying out detailed scrutiny of government spending and then producing Annual and Special reports that provide MPPs with the information they need to judge how well public resources are being used.
In 2019, the Auditor General released its report Provincial Support to Sustain the Horse-Racing Industry, one of 18 value-for-money audits performed that year.
"The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), and the Ministry of Finance and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), as of June 28, 2021, have fully implemented 19% of the actions we recommended in our 2019 Annual Report," stated Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk. "An additional 16% of recommended actions were in the process of being implemented."
The full report, available below, provides an update on those recommendations and the status of those recommendations yet to be implemented.
