$75,000 'Princess' Final Set For Saturday
The highly competitive elimination heats have determined the top nine money earners as the final of the $75,000 Princess of the Pacific for fillies and mares is set for Fraser Downs Saturday night
.
The entry of Modern Legacy (Ed Hensley) and Lickcreek Jazzy (Michael Hennessy) has been established as the morning line favourites at 8-5. Hensley, who is running away with the driving championship this season, drove Lickcreek Jazzy to victory during last week's elimination. He was also handling the reins when Modern Legacy qualified two weeks ago.
While there are nine horses competing in the open pace event in Saturday's final, there will be only six wagering interests. Besides Modern Legacy and Lickcreek Jazzy, the other entries are Lil Kim (Jim Burke) and Red Star Hottie (David McKellar) at 3-1; Lil Miss Nyalation (Scott Knight) and Jans Rich Girl (Jim Marino) at 5-1.
Rossridge Tristar (Barry Treen) is listed at 4-1; Adorable Killean (Dave Hudon) is at 6-1; Second Fancy (Serge Masse) is 12-1.
The Princess of the Pacific goes as Race 10 on Saturday's card with post time scheduled for 10:12 p.m.
Upcoming Excitement At Fraser
Mark the consecutive Saturday nights of March 20 and March 27 as two dates you won't want to miss at Fraser Downs. It is Ray Gemmill's 80th birthday celebration on the 20th as his family, friends and fans salute the man who helped build Fraser Downs (nee Cloverdale Raceway) in the early 1970's and who also drove the first-ever winner on New Year's Day, 1976. A horse named Guy Dominion won that race and was owned by nine members of the Vancouver Canucks: Gary Smith, John Gould, Chris Oddeifson, Dennis Ververgaert, Gerry O'Flaherty, Gregg Boddy, Andre Boudrias, Ron Sedlbauer and Don Lever.
Saturday, March 27 is the annual Harness the Hope event at Fraser Downs in support of Breast Cancer Research. The fun starts at 6:00 p.m. with a special Clubhouse buffet, dancing, a Blackjack Tournament, silent auction, guest speakers and, of course, live harness racing. Reservations are available at 604-575-5603.
