Burke Rolls A Five At The Meadows
With another $20 million season under his belt, trainer Ron Burke added another five wins to his 2021 summary on Tuesday (Nov. 23) at Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, bolstering his totals to bring what would be his fourth 1,000-win year closer to fruition.
Burke last managed 1,000 wins in 2018 (1,102) and fell just shy in 2019 (981) before a COVID-shortened season in 2020 (883). His five wins at The Meadows on Tuesday afternoon lift his seasonal tally to 879. He would need to win roughly 20 races per week for the rest of the year to reach that 1,000-win plateau.
In Tuesday’s feature at The Meadows, a $12,100 Filly & Mare Conditioned Pace, Amelias Courage A unleashed a late kick that carried her to a 9-1 upset.
Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. piloted the seven-year-old daughter of Courage Under Fire-American Dreamer, whose career statistics now include 24 wins and $237,104 in earnings, for trainer Richard Perfido and owner Win Rhythm Stables. Time for the mile was 1:53.2. Lady Newton was second, beaten a half length, with Zoe Ellasen third.
Drivers Aaron Merriman and Wrenn each enjoyed a four-bagger.
Live harness racing at The Meadows continues Wednesday when the 13-race program features a $1,151.78 carryover in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
