Jamieson Sweeps Harvest Opener
Driver Jody Jamieson found the winner’s circle in both of the $17,000 opening-preliminary divisions of the Harvest Series for three-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday (Nov. 20) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Jamieson first piloted Dave Menary trainee Bet On Becky to a 1:52 score as the 2-5 choice. The Bettors Delight filly landed in fourth out of post eight to a :26.4 first quarter set by Best Keepsake. Awesome Hill then made a move for the front into a :55.1 half as Jamieson angled Bet On Becky off the pylons to the final turn. She caught cover from Best Keepsake as she vacated pocket to three-quarters in 1:23.3, though she followed the cover briefly as Jamieson towered her high for the stretch drive. Bet On Becky bolted by Best Keepsake through the lane to pass the beam 1-1/4-lengths better, with Awesome Hill finishing third and Carnival Heart taking fourth.
Owned by Larry Menary, Kenneth Ewen, Alan Alber and Michael Guerriero, Bet On Becky won her third race from 13 starts this season and her seventh from 18 overall, pushing her earnings to $271,789. She paid $2.80 to win.
Chiefs Dream Girl took command early for Jamieson in the other division and scooted clear of her competition off the corner, coasting to a 1:53.3 victory as the odds-on choice.
Bottomoftheninth took the lead from post 8 to the first turn but Chiefs Dream Girl soon overtook that rival by a :28 first quarter and never looked back. Uncontested, she widened her lead through a :57.1 half and through three-quarters in 1:25.3 to turn for home nearly five lengths ahead of her competition. Bottomoftheninth narrowed on the deficit through the straightaway to settle for second, beaten 1-3/4 lengths, while Shes A Sassy Beach finished another five lengths behind in third to survive a photo with Control The Thong.
A daughter of Sunshine Beach, Chiefs Dream Girl won her second race from 12 starts this season and her fifth from 23 overall, pushing her earnings to $100,045. Jack Moiseyev conditions the $2.60 winner for owners High Stakes Inc., LSC Stables and Dany Fontaine.
