World Trotting Derby Faces Funding Cuts

Among a long list of proposed budget cuts announced by the Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn on Wednesday is funding for the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds’ World Trotting Derby

for three-year-olds.

In a speech to a joint session of the General Assembly on Wednesday, Quinn outlined a billion budget proposal for next year, which included cutting funding for the $500,000 stake race. If state assistance is cut for the World Trotting Derby, the race would be eliminated. The fair itself would not be affected.
