Family Recipe First In Dayton Open
A taxing :25.4 first quarter mile was the ingredient needed for Family Recipe to cook up another winner, his eighth on the season, in Hollywood Dayton’s featured $30,000 Open I Pace on Saturday (Nov. 13).
Driver Chris Page, in the sulky for trainer LeWayne Miller, was content to watch the early speed duel between Father Ted GB and favoured Kiss Of Terror before seizing the opportunity to challenge the pacesetters first over for the middle half of the race. The leaders eventually tired and Family Recipe proceeded to the wire an open-length winner in 1:51.2. Ginger Tree Marty won a blanket photo finish for second with Sectionline Bigry and Father Ted GB next to cross the finish line. Butter Bay Hanover and My Hero Ron also earned checks.
Miller co-owns the winner with A. Manders, J. Vieira and the Never 2 Late Stable. He easily eclipsed the $300,000 earnings plateau with his 15th win and returned $9.20 to his $2 backers. The four-year-old gelded son of Always A Virgin has now banked $130,066 in 2021 with his time split between Ohio and Indiana.
A $24,000 Open II Pace was contested earlier on the program with Nuclear Dragon and driver Trevor Smith winning in the identical 1:51.2 clocking. The nine-year-old son of Nuclear Dragon was claimed for $30,000 recently by owner Tonya Nichols, who turned over the training duties to Jason Brewer.
One Corona To Go was second and Sweet Troy third.
Racing resumes Monday (Nov. 15) afternoon with an earlier 2 p.m. (EST) post time. Post time remains 4 p.m. on the Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday cards.
