Gias Surreal Repeats In Mares Preferred
Gias Surreal was back on top in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Friday night (Nov. 12), scoring her second straight victory with James MacDonald in the sulky.
After three-year-old filly Western Wish (Louis-Philippe Roy) and 1-2 favourite Karma Seelster (Doug McNair) traded turns on the lead through a :27.1 opening quarter, MacDonald moved inside starter Gias Surreal from her early three-hole to take over command on the way to the midway mark in :56.3.
Karma Seelster was later flushed out of the pocket with the backfield advancing as Gias Surreal led past three-quarters in 1:25. The favourite gave her a run for her money down the lane, but Gias Surreal forged on to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:52 flat over the 'good' track. Western Wish held on for third.
Sent postward as the 8-5 second choice following her Mares Preferred Handicap score last Saturday from the outside post nine, Gias Surreal paid $5.20 to win this time out.
Trained by Don Lindsey, the five-year-old So Surreal-Nancy Irene mare went over the $500,000 mark in career earnings while notching her 26th victory for owners James Graham, Edward Peron, Lee Winters and Thomas Mariano. She has earned nearly $245,000 this year with seven wins, five seconds and three thirds from 28 starts.
