Drama Act Plays Out In Dayton Open
With a dozen open class victories through September 10 of this year, Drama Act went on an uncharacteristic four-race losing streak. Of course, those defeats came in some of the most prestigious races for veteran pacing mares: the Milton Stakes at Woodbine Mohawk Park, the Dayton Distaff at Hollywood Dayton, the Allerage at The Red Mile and the Breeders Crown at The Meadowlands.
She returned to the winner’s circle on Friday (Nov. 12) with an impressive 1:50.2 triumph at Hollywood Dayton.
Assigned the outermost post position, Drama Act and driver Chris Page endured an overland journey for much of the way. Parked in second-over position through the early fractions of :26.4 and :55.1, Page unleashed the outstanding four-year-old daughter of Well Said down the backstretch, swinging three-wide before finally clearing to the front just after the third timing beam stopped at 1:21.4. Drama Act then was able to coast through the lane without serious pressure.
Penpaperpage (Tyler Smith) had to swing widest of all in the stretch to win the race for place. Somebodyslilly (Tony Hall) garnered the show dough, while Talkaboutaqueen (Josh Sutton) and Camera Lady (Dan Noble) also earned cheques.
The OK Corral of Illinois bred and still owns Drama Act, whose earnings surpassed $400,000 with the victory. She has won 21 of 37 lifetime starts. The winner is managed by the sport’s leading trainer Ron Burke.
Racing resumes at Hollywood Dayton on Saturday (Nov. 13) with first race post time slated for 4 p.m.
