Esquire Upsets In Flamboro Preferred
Heavily favoured Power And Grace set all of the speed in Thursday’s $13,000 Preferred 2 for trotters at Flamboro Downs, but it was Esquire who got all the glory thanks to his come from behind score.
Esquire, in rein to Colin Kelly, got away fourth in the seven-horse affair while Power And Grace muscled to the top and sailed through fractions of :28.1, :58 and 1:27.1. Esquire came first over on the way to the three-quarter pole, and he stormed home in :29.2 to win by three-quarters of a length over Power And Grace in 1:56.3. Sizzlen Hot Herbie was third.
Sent off at odds of 9-1, the Mark Goddard trainee won for the fifth time this season and for the 22nd time in his career. The career winner of $228,086 is owned by Brandon Guerra of Brantford, Ont.
