"You Can't Legislate Morality"
This past Saturday in Waseca, Minnesota, politicians and members of the community met to discuss the current legislative session and current state issues. The meeting produced a grounded quote from a member of the audience
.
According to an article on wasecacountynews.com, when the topic of a current racino proposal -- which could lead to state receiving $125 million a year -- came up, crowd member Diane Wendland offered a simple and very true quote.
“You can’t legislate morality. People will always gamble,” she said.
Wendland indicated that with gambling going to always be a fact of life, it would only make sense to keep some of those gambling dollars in the state.
According to the article, the February forecast in Minnesota indicated a projected deficit of $209 million.
