Rusty Riley Leads Truro Pacers
Veteran gelding Rusty Riley wired the top pacers at Truro Raceway on a rainy Sunday afternoon (Oct. 31) to score a Halloween treat for trainer/driver Paul Langille.
Rusty Riley chased the gate away from post four in the $2,000 Winners Over feature and cruised through fractions of :28.2, :58.4 and 1:29 en route to a three-length victory in 1:58.1 over the track rated two seconds off. Dont Ask Logan (Todd Trites) began a first-over bid from third at the midway mark, but stalled down the backside as last week's winner and the 9-5 bettors' choice Johnnywalkerdelux (Emmons MacKay) went three-wide from the back. He dropped into the open two-hole on the final turn as Rusty Riley began to get away on the field.
Sent off as the 5-2 second choice, Rusty Riley returned $9.10 to win. Johnnywalkerdelux chased in second-place and Cool Dew (Andrew Campbell), riding a five-race win streak, followed the favourite's three-wide move from second-over to finish third.
The victory was Rusty Riley's sixth of the year to go along with seven other top three finishes from 19 starts for local owner Chantel Langille and Dana Getto of New Waterford, N.S. A career winner of 34 races lifetime, the 10-year-old son of Blissfull Hall has now banked more than $76,000 in purses.
