Nick Callahan Recovering
Veteran trainer Nick Callahan has returned to his home in Greenwood, Delaware following a weekend
training accident and pelvis surgery.
Callahan was completing a training trip behind Toms Toy, a four-year-old pacing mare recently added to the stable, when coming around the final turn his sulky wheel ran over an obstruction. Callahan, who was dumped from the bike, fell hard to the track and as a result broke his pelvis.
He was rushed to Baltimore for surgery, and the operation was deemed successful. Callahan has since been discharged and now will be sidelined for the next few weeks.
Callahan is currently eighth in the Dover Downs trainer standings with 30 wins and $330,195 in purse money. His son, Shaun Callahan, the stable's second trainer, will take over the training duties. Another son, Corey Callahan, is the track's leading driver and ranked second in the North American dash-win standings.
