Bourbon Courage Tops Hoosier Sale
Selling in the first of the two sessions, Bourbon Courage brought the highest bid of the Hoosier Classic Sale while becoming the highest-priced Indiana-sired yearling in history on Friday (Oct. 22).
A half-brother to 2021 Hambletonian champ Captain Corey, Bourbon Courage drew $255,000 through the ring when selling to Doug Overhiser of Shorewood, Ill. He was one of two to sell for a six-digit figure through the weekend, with the other being the sale’s third-highest price in Happy Swan (Hip #99). The Swan For All filly is the second foal from the Muscles Yankee mare Happy Place, who is a half-sister to stakes-placed mare Somebody To Love (3, 1:56F; $613,728) and a full sister to stakes-placed mare Hey Mister (3, 1:53.4M; $180,811). She sold to Peter Wrenn signing as agent.
Day two of the sale was topped by the Swan For All colt Ponda Chase (Hip #353), who auctioned as the second-highest price of the whole sale when going for $160,000 to Peter Wrenn as agent. He is the second foal from the Muscle Hill mare Wildflower, who won the 2016 Hudson Filly Trot and is a half-sister to stakes-placed stallion Lightning Storm (4, 1:53.2F; $344,145) and Aunt Rose (3, 1:54h; $217,071).
A couple hips later, the last six-digit sale walked through the ring in Brookview Darius (Hip #358). The Swan For All colt brought $105,000 when selling to Alfred Kowalewski of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He is a full brother to stakes-placed gelding Brookview Bolt (3, 1:53.1S; $361,427) and comes from a dam who is a half-sister to millionaire Mission Accepted (4, 1:50.2M; $1,145,311).
Through the two sessions, 400 yearlings sold and brought a gross sale of nearly $8.6 million, an average of $21,441. The 2021 gross is a 12 per cent increase of 2020’s sale figures.
