Flamboro Preferred To Power And Grace
Power And Grace saw a four-race winning streak come to a halt when she was a beaten favourite in last week’s Preferred class at Flamboro Downs, but she bounced back to win Thursday’s $13,000 main event for Team MacDonald.
Brett MacDonald had Power And Grace parked and pressing Esquire to the quarter pole in :28.1 before eventually working to the lead. Power And Grace sliced out the opening half in :58.1 before coming under major pressure from Wild And Crazy guy who showed a short lead while racing parked out past the three-quarter pole in 1:27.3.
Power And Grace fought back, however, and used a closing quarter in :30 win by three-quarters of a length over Wild And Crazy Guy in 1:57.3. Esquire rounded out the top three finishers in the six-horse affair.
Sent off as the 9-5 favourite, the six-year-old daughter of Holiday Road-Mark Of Honour improved her 2021 record to 7-7-3 from 24 starts for trainer Ron MacDonald. The 31-time winner, who is owned by Hartel Maintenance Inc and Lormer McClure, has banked over $250,000 to date.
Westbeach tried her luck on the half-miler on Thursday evening in the $13,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 class, and she passed the test with flying colours for the tandem of driver Scott Coulter and trainer Richard Moreau.
The regular from Woodbine Mohawk Park got away third before making a first-over bid on the way to the half. She showed a short lead while racing parked past the three-quarter pole in 1:25 and then used a :30.2 closing quarter to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Saulsbrook Jessie in 1:55.2. Rounding out the Trifecta ticket was So Long Darling.
Lachance Racing Stable and Dragon Racing Inc share ownership on the five-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-I Will. The 11-time winner now boasts a 4-3-4 record from 26 starts this season. She’s put over $70,000 on her card this year and more than $176,000 in her career.
