A 'Lynk' Between Northside Longshots
Two-thirds of the races contested on Saturday (Oct. 16) at Northside Downs provided double-digit win payouts, with Adam Lynk bringing home the two winners with the longest odds.
Lynk started his day with a bang, delivering Night Sky to the winner's circle with a 42-1 stunner in the opener. He concluded the day with another toteboard exploder courtesy Gentry Seelster in the $1,600 Winners Over Pace.
In the Saturday feature, Runaway Mystery (Harold Leblanc Jr.) and Johnnie Jack (Greg Sparling) waged war through the first three quarters. Runaway Mystery wouldn't let Johnnie Jack clear, and parked him through panels of :27.1, :55.2 and 1:26.2 before Johnnie Jack finally gave up the attack.
At that point, the backfield loomed the danger and 18-1 shot Gentry Seelster emerged as the fresh threat. Lynk launched the pacer three wide down the backside and paced on even terms with the determined Runaway Mystery around the far turn. In deep stretch Gentry Seelster forged to the front and hit the wire a quarter length the best in a season's best 1:57.1. Runaway Mystery was a resolute second, while Southwind Ricardo managed show dough.
Robert MacNeil of Sydney Mines, N.S. co-owns and trains Gentry Seelster (Mach Three - Goddess Princess) along with co-owners Joseph MacNeil and Bernard MacNeil. The four-year-old picked up his seventh win of the season and ninth lifetime, good for $37,136 in earnings.
