Perfetto Pops In Preferred
Trainer-driver Dagfin Henriksen asserted Perfetto on the point and held the lead with every step to score a half-length victory in the $34,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Oct. 11).
Launching from post seven, Perfetto cleared command from Grandma Heidi by a :26.4 first quarter and grabbed a breather to a :55.4 half, where odds-on choice Oney Hall committed to race uncovered out of fourth. The favourite gained on Perfetto to three-quarters, timed in 1:24.2, and stuck a slight nose in front off the final turn. Perfetto battled back to retake a narrow lead as he veered off the pegs and Grandma Heidi came darting through to his inside, but the six-year-old Majestic Son gelding maintained the top to the finish of a 1:51.4. Warrawee Roo rallied to finish third in a dead-heat with Oney Hall.
Owned by Gerald Haggerty, Perfetto won his third race from 17 starts this season and his 19th from 76 overall, pushing his earnings to $565,416. He paid $17.70 to win.
