Top Performers To 3R Sunday
Three of the most successful horses during the latter part of the season at Hippodrome 3R will be racing this Sunday (Oct. 10), one in each of the three feature races.
The featured handicap pace, slated for race eight, will find the Sportswriter gelding DGs De Vito looking to keep up his rampaging form for trainer Guylaine Fortin and owner Daniel Supernant.
A 2019 champion in his Quebec-bred series competition, DGs De Vito has posted three wins and four seconds in his last eight starts, all against the best horses that 3R has to offer, and he will be trying for another top finish as he starts from post six in the field of seven for driver Jonathan Lachance.
In the seventh race handicap pace for mares, Wild River Swan had posted a second and a first after a brief summer hiatus before being stuck with the difficult number eight post last time, coming from last at the head of the stretch to miss by only two lengths. Jonathan Lachance also has the drive behind the daughter of Sportswriter, as she does get some post relief in starting from post six in the field of eight for owner/trainer Dr. John Bradbury.
In the headliner for trotters with Preferred horses handicapped to the outer posts, the three-year-old Angus Hall colt Hall Win escaped a tough starting assignment, having drawn post two in a nine-horse gathering.
Hall Win, trained and driven by Kevin Maguire for Ecuries Maguire Inc., has by far the highest earnings in the field during 2021, with $46,186 on his card after winning his $60,000 Quebec championship on September 12, but it’s tough for sophomores to step up and beat older horses; Hall Win tried to do it on the front end in his last start, but was caught by Bonfire Bash, who has the trailing post nine on Sunday.
A season-long duel will also be continued on the racetrack Sunday, as drivers Pascal Berube and Stephane Brosseau have 54 and 52 victories respectively, and this race should go right down to the wire. Sylvain Tremblay has trained 27 winners, eight more than four-time reigning champion Francis Richard, and seems to have that title wrapped up.
Track Notes: An event on the Quebec regional circuit will be held at the St-Joseph-de-Lepage track Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Both the track record holders – Mr Logan Mirox on the trot and Ninoscredit on the pace – are slated for action. After this Sunday’s program there will be four more cards of harness racing in the 2021 Quebec pari-mutuel season, to be held the four Sundays until November 7 at 12:10 p.m. For a free 3R race program, visit hippodrome3r.ca.
