Mares To Face Off In P.E.I. Preferred

The inside duo of Michele Z Tam and Pacific Delight are set to hook up in a wide open Thursday evening (Sept. 30) feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Thursday presentation gets underway at 6 p.m., featuring the Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace in Race 11 for a $2,600 pot with 12 dashes slated for the night.

Jason Hughes will drive Michele Z Tam off the rail from his own barn with the mare sporting four wins since coming to the East Coast from the Ontario scene. Robi Hughes of Stratford, P.E.I. holds the ownership papers of the four-year-old daughter of American Ideal as she is set at 3-1 morning line odds.

The 5-2 favourite is post two starter Pacific Delight from the Ron Matheson barn with Corey MacPherson picking up the drive for owners Jim Gorman, Eldred Nicholson, Quentin Bevan and Bobbi Jo Matheson. The four-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight comes into the race having finished first or second in her last four starts.

Ill Tell Me Ma (to be driven by David Dowling) has post three with wins in both of her last two outings from the Colin Johnson barn.

Peter MacPhee places Pacific Delight on top of the Post Time Picks: “Pacific Delight has had an incredible season and is an amazing 20 for 21 in top three finishes. It’s safe to say she’s going to get a smooth journey and with MacPherson in the bike. We think they hit the wire first.”

Also in that competitive featured field are Thebossisagirl (Gilles Barrieau), Lyons Jennilee (Ken Murphy), Better Be In Love (Marc Campbell) and Ms Moyse (Adam Merner).

The top trot of the evening is in Race 6 for a $2,050 purse as The Nun (Brodie MacPhee) is the top choice from post four. The Earl Smith-trained daughter of Father Patrick was a 2:00 winner her last start for owner Redland Farms of Bible Hill, N.S. The trotting filly is set to find her biggest challenges from Galeowind (Marc Campbell) and Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault).
