Perfetto Upsets In Preferred Trot
Perfetto turned a perfect, pocket trip into an upset score in Monday’s feature race – the $34,000 Preferred Trot – at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Last year’s O’Brien Award winner in the Older Trotting Horse of the Year category, was quick off the starting gate for trainer/driver Dagfin Henriksen who was pressed by a parked out Warrawee Roo to the quarter pole in :27.2 before relenting to that foe.
In the role of favourite, Warrawee Roo then led the group through middle fractions of :57 and 1:25.4 before coming under attack from Perfetto in deep stretch. Henriksen’s charge uncorked a :26.2 closing panel to prevail by a neck over Warrawee Roo in 1:53.1. Threefiftytwo also fired home well to grab the show dough in the six-horse affair.
Sent off at odds of 6-1, Perfetto improved his 2021 record to 2-4-5 from 16 starts with the win. Gerald Haggerty of Camden East, ON owns the gelding who is an 18-time winner with a bankroll that stands at $548,416.
