Dragon Time Wins Another Marquis Open
It was Dragon Time again in the Open Handicap Pace featured at Marquis Downs on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 26) as the Trevor Williams trainee continued his winning ways through the meet's first three weekends.
After trailing the field of five through the first half, 6-5 favourite Dragon Time circled his rivals to win the $3,400 Open in 1:56.1, beating Appoggiatura (Clayton Braybrook) to the wire by a neck. Mystic Dragon (Blake Piwniuk) finished 2-1/4 lengths behind while Diggin A Trench (Lee Ibey) faded to fourth after leading through fractions of :28.2, :57 and 1:26.2. The winner paid $4.10.
Dragon Time was driven to his third straight Open win by Glenn Le Drew. Williams co-owns the six-year-old Bettors Delight gelding with Adam Mace of Altona, M.B.
Le Drew nearly swept all five of Sunday's races, with four wins and one second-place finish. He helped Williams to a training triple, with Lisplaced ($2.90) and Da Little Beats ($3.20) winning their respective assignments before Dragon Time closed out the card.
