'Madhatter' Wins Yonkers Open
Saturday night’s (Sept. 25) on-track feature at Yonkers Raceway, the $48,000 Open Handicap Trot, was won by Madhatter Bluechip (Greg Merton) in 1:55.4.
Madhatter Bluechip went to the lead from post one, posted fractions of :28.3, :59, and 1:27.1, and came home in 28.3 to defeat pocket sitter Magic Vacation (Dan Dubé) by 1-1/2 lengths. Rock Of Cashel (Austin Siegelman) was third.
Tom Milici owns and trains Madhatter Bluechip, a nine-year-old Muscle Hill gelding. This was his 36th career victory, and he has now earned $391,402. He paid $11.40 to win after being sent off at 9-2.
There were no winning tickets in the Pick-6 again on Saturday night, and as a result, there will be a carryover of $8,853.52 on Monday night’s (Sept. 27) program. While the Pick-6 was not hit, the 50-cent Pick-5 was, for a return of $8,022.75.
Yonkers Raceway’s 12-race card on Monday night gets underway at 7:15 p.m. with the Pick-6 beginning in the third race.
