American Risk Rebounds In Top Class
American Risk returned to the head of the class with a front-end effort in the $2,000 Winners Over pacing feature at Truro Raceway on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 19).
Driven by Todd Trites, American Risk fired out to a quick four-length lead from post four in the early stages before the rest of the field caught up through a :28.1 opening quarter.
He continued to lead the way through middle fractions of :57.4 and 1:27.2 while his favoured stablemate Dont Ask Logan (Andrew Campbell) launched a first-over attack at the midway mark with Imalookertoo (Darren Crowe) following his cover before going three-wide in the backstretch.
From the back of the seven-horse field, last week's winner Batterup Hanover (Paul Langille) joined the line four-across turning for home but no one could catch the front-striding American Risk, who drew off by three lengths to win in 1:55.3. Longshot Harry G (Ernest Laffin) won the race for place off a pocket trip while Dont Ask Logan bested Batterup Hanover and Imalookertoo for third.
American Risk has now won three of the last four top class events at Truro for trainer George Rennison and the local Risky Bizz Group. He has six wins in total on the season from 15 starts.
After finishing fifth from an outside draw in last Sunday's feature, the five-year-old American Ideal gelding was made the bettors' 5-2 second choice and a $2 win ticket paid $7.
